Sketch #30: When We Go Underground
Beneath the surface, in this suspended world between stations, something shifts. The noise of the subway, the brakes, the voices. But in the middle of all that, people seem to fold inward, into thought, into memory, into themselves. There’s a kind of quiet that doesn’t come from silence, but from detachment. The small ways people hold themselves together down here. We go underground to get somewhere, and while we are underway, we also drift a little. To let go, just for a moment, and find the strength to resurface.
About the Sketches
Like musicians who rehearse or athletes who train, I use these monthly photographic sketches to explore, play and keep my creative energy in motion.
They are intuitive, ongoing experiments in visual storytelling, sometimes surprising, sometimes uncertain, but for me the making itself is always evolving.
By sharing them, I hope to inspire both you and myself.
Feel free to subscribe, view the monthly sketch or reply with your thoughts, questions or ideas.
A new sketch goes online every first Monday of the month, right as the noon sirens sound.
